What is the Triangle Rewards Program?
Canadian Tire is an iconic Canadian brand and the company’s Canadian Tire Money was one of Canada’s most beloved loyalty programs. To appeal to a younger and more-digitally minded demographic, Canadian Tire launched a new loyalty program in 2018 called Triangle Rewards, with paper CT Money discontinued after 2020.
The Triangle Rewards program allows members to collect and redeem Canadian Tire Money (also known as CT Money) online and in-store at Canadian Tire and a variety of other retailers, or when making a purchase with a Triangle Mastercard credit card (Canadian Tire offers 3 unique cards, more on them below).
Who can benefit most from the Triangle Rewards Program?
Canadian Tire Triangle Rewards might be fairly new, but Canadian Tire Money is a currency with a long history of satisfied customers. The Triangle Rewards program is ideal for anyone who does a majority of their weekly spending with Canadian Tire brands, such as commuters who get their gas at Gas+. Additionally, parents with kids in sports is likely to find considerable value with Triangle Rewards, especially given the huge number of sports brands under the CT umbrella. The same thing goes for people who frequently shop at Canadian Tire department stores.
The program isn't right for everyone, however. Canadian Tire doesn't have a huge grocery presence, with only snacks and beverages for sale. This limitation means the program isn't ideal if you are looking to maximize grocery savings, although given the program's free nature, it's hardly a major concern.
Canadian Tire Rewards pros and cons
Pros
-
Earn rates: Canadian Tire credit cards offer solid earn rates across a number of categories.
-
Large number of eligible brands: CT Money applies to over ten brands, including Sport Chek, Mark's, Atmosphere, Gas+ and more.
-
Bonus offers: Canadian Tire Rewards often provides bonus offers valued at up to 50x points back in CT Money. These offers can significantly increase your rewards total.
Cons
-
Rewards expire: CT Money expires after 18 months of account inactivity.
-
Limited redemption options: CT Money can only be spent at Canadian Tire partner brands.
How to join CT Triangle Rewards
Signing up for the Triangle Rewards program is very quick and easy:
- Go to the Canadian Tire Triangle Rewards website (www.triangle.canadiantire.ca)
- Click “Join Triangle Rewards”
- Provide basic information, including name, address and phone number
- Create a username and password
Once you’ve joined, you can register your card immediately on the same page. You can also sign up directly on the spot at any Canadian Tire store or through the Triangle Rewards mobile app (available in the App Store and Google Play Store).
Triangle Rewards tiers
Canadian Tire Triangle Rewards
The Triangle Rewards program consists of two tiers: a free tier and a premium version. The first tier is what most Canadians think of when you imagine Triangle Rewards; that is, it's what you get when you sign up for free at Canadian Tire or through the website or mobile app. The base tier of CT Triangle Rewards is free to join and offers a 0.4% everyday rewards base earn on purchases with Canadian Tire companies.
Canadian Tire Triangle Select
Canadian Tire introduced a premium tier to its Triangle Rewards in 2023. Canadian Tire Triangle Select is a $89 per year tier that provides enhanced cash back on Canadian Tire purchases, in-store “brand boosts” on select names in select categories like apparel, home and outdoor living, and a gift card welcome bonus.
Triangle Select more than pays for itself with the additional points, welcome gift, and discounts tabulated, but it's not for everyone. If you only shop with CT brands periodically, you might not find value in the elite tier. In these instances, it's simpler (and more rewarding) to get a Canadian Tire Financial credit card, especially given the lack of an annual fee, enhanced earning rates, and bonuses.
Triangle Select members with a CT Triangle Mastercard stand to earn even more rewards. According to the bank, almost 70% of Select members had one of Canadian Tire's credit cards, so you know it's good.
How to earn CT Money in Triangle Rewards
One of the best features of Triangle Rewards is the many ways you can earn rewards. You simply show your membership card or have the cashier scan your Triangle app (available for Android and iOS—more on the app below).
Earn with Canadian Tire brands
The simplest way to earn CT Money is by making purchases with eligible Canadian Tire companies. Triangle Rewards members earn a base rate of 0.4% cash back in the form of CT Money when shopping at eligible CT locations.
You can also earn CT Money when making select online purchases at canadiantire.ca.
Canadian Tire Rewards ineligible purchases
You can’t collect CT Money on things like gift cards, lottery tickets, hunting and fishing licenses, labour (other than labour for automobile repairs), prepaid cards, phone cards and tobacco products. A full list of prohibited products is available on the Canadian Tire website.
Earn CT Money with Petro-Canada
Triangle Rewards members now have more ways to save thanks to a partnership between CT and Petro-Canada's Petro‑Points™. Members can link their Petro‑Points and Triangle Rewards accounts. This process allows them to earn both currencies with each fuel transaction at Gas+ or Petro-Canada locations nationwide.
Earn with a Canadian Tire Triangle Rewards credit card
The other and much more lucrative way to earn Canadian Tire Money is by shopping at participating retailers with a Triangle Rewards credit card. There are three Triangle credit cards available: The Triangle™ Mastercard®, the Triangle™ World Elite Mastercard®, and the Triangle™ World Mastercard®.
You can also sign up for the program using the Triangle Rewards app, which is available on both Android and Apple devices. The app also makes it easy to use your membership because you don’t have to worry about memorizing your membership rewards number or carrying around a card and retailers can just scan your app.

The Canadian Tire Triangle® World Elite® Mastercard® is Canadian Tire Financial's “premium”” card, though given the $0 annual fee it’s better to classify it as “freemium.” The card earns 4% back on all purchases made at Canadian Tires, 3% back at grocery stores (on the first $12,000 per year) and 1% back on all other purchases.
The real value with the Triangle World Elite Mastercard is the roadside assistance package. Cardholders receive CT’s gold plan, meaning if your vehicle breaks down, you can have it towed for a distance of up to 250 km per service call to the destination of your choice (within Canada or the US) at no extra charge.
What is Canadian Tire Money worth?
CT Money has a very simple value: each CT cent is worth 1 cent. Canadian Tire Money‘s redemption value is very straightforward: one CT Money dollar is equal to $1 in real money.
Just how much can you earn with CT Money? Try our handy credit card rewards conversion calculator to se how far your points will go across Canada's leading loyalty programs.
Does Canadian Tire Money expire?
Yes. CT Money will expire after 18 months of inactivity on your account. Fortunately, keeping your account active is as easy as using your card (or Canadian Tire account) to make a purchase.

So, is it worthwhile to join Canadian Tire Triangle Rewards? That depends on your location and spending habits, but given the free nature of the basic tier, the answer is probably "yes." First, a quick refresher on the basics of Triangle Rewards:
Canadian Tire is one of Canada's most trusted brands, according to Ledger, and it's easy to see why. The Triangle Rewards program is a good program but only if you frequently shop at Canadian Tire or other participating retailers. The Triangle credit cards certainly help boost earnings at Canadian Tire stores and eligible retailers but don’t offer as many rewards as other of the best credit cards or rewards programs. Still, if you are a Canadian Tire regular Triangle Rewards is worth checking out.
